The Paterson Silk Factory building model was recreated from site photographs of two existing buildings. The buildings have a similar brick elevation but have a variation in the cornice and windows. Paterson (NJ), known as the home of Lou Abbott and Larry Doby, location of the first documented manned submarine submersion and onetime silk capital of the world, can now have one of its classic mill warehouses on your layout.
This two story O Scale 3-section model features laser scored and cut elevation, window and door elements, and built-up laser scored/cut or styrene cornice detail. Each basic elevation piece, on the left and right sides, measures 11-1/2” long by 7-1/16” tall. The partial width elevation piece in the middle adds 4-1/4” in length and stands 7-1/4” tall. The overall 3-section model measures 27-3/8” long and is built as one piece. The Paterson Silk Mill building offered here is a built-up and painted as a shadowbox (nominally 1-1/2” deep).
The full-width elevation pieces on the left and right ends were originally designed with only windows on the ground floor. We have now integrated the option of having a door added to the middle two window columns (columns three and four). An alternate door option provides for a single, wider door centered between window columns three and four.
The partial width elevation piece was designed to overlap the end columns of basic elevation pieces to create a seamless elevation view when combining multiple pieces for a longer model. It also creates additional visual interest by having a slightly higher cornice and is offset from the basic elevation. The partial width elevation will have your choice of two doors aligned with the window columns or the single, wider centered door.
Now for the options:
In lieu of windows and/or doors on the first floor, you may specify between one and six freight doors.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with one of two window options, one with a single-height double hung window and the other with a pair of 2/3 height double-height with a 1/3 height fixed 4 over 2 pane.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with clear, translucent or Roscolux gray glazing.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with either a brick or cast stone cornice.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with all windows on the first floor, freight doors on the first floor, a pair of doors in window columns 3 and 4, or a single larger door centered between window columns 3 and 4.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with all freight doors in window columns 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 (oriented left to right).
Each shadow box is constructed of laser scored and cut acrylic plastic, and Taskboard, and is professionally finished to be individually unique. Windows are fabricated using two layers of laser cut Lazerboard for sashes and frames. Glazing is your choice of .006” clear, translucent acetate or Roscolux Grey.
The rear panel of the shadowbox is removable to allow for the addition of LED lighting. There are individual floors and ceilings that have a space provided for a square styrene tube that can act as a chase to hide post-purchase wiring. The ceilings each have cut-outs for the placement of 5050 LED lights like Just Plug by Woodland Scenics. You may also attach LED strip lighting to the ceiling.
If you prefer a prelit model, we offer the shadowbox lit with strip LED’s in the ceiling of each level, all with individual leads. See the listing for WH-03-O-2 SB 28 LIT.
