Todd Architectural Models has designed the third in a series of historic warehouse buildings as an O Scale model. The Paterson Silk Mill building model was recreated from site photographs of two existing buildings. The buildings have a similar brick elevation, but have a variation in the cornice and windows. The model is suited for fabrication as a flat, shadowbox or building. Paterson (NJ), known as the home of Lou Costello and Larry Doby, location of the first documented manned submarine submersion and onetime silk capital of the world, can now have one of its classic mill warehouses on your layout.
This 3-section model features laser scored and cut elevation, window and door elements, and built-up laser scored/cut or styrene cornice detail. Each basic elevation piece, on the left and right sides, measures 12” long by 13-3/4”tall. The partial width elevation piece in the middle adds 4-1/4” in length. The overall 3-section model measures 28-1/4” long and is built as one piece. The Paterson Silk Mill building offered here is a built-up and painted as a shadowbox (nominally 1-1/2”deep).
The full-width elevation pieces on the left and right ends were originally designed with only windows on the ground floor. We have now integrated the option of having a door added to the middle two window columns (columns three and four). An alternate door option provides for a single, wider door centered between window columns three and four.
The partial width elevation piece was designed to overlap the end columns of basic elevation pieces to create a seamless elevation view when combining multiple pieces for a longer model. It also creates additional visual interest by having a slightly higher cornice and is offset from the basic elevation. The partial width elevation will have your choice of two doors aligned with the window columns or the single, wider centered door.
In lieu of windows and/or doors on the first floor, you may specify between one and six warehouse doors.
Each shadow box is constructed of laser scored and cut acrylic plastic, and Taskboard, and is professionally finished to be individually unique. Windows are fabricated using two layers of laser cut Lazerboard for sashes and frames. Glazing is your choice of .006” clear, translucent acetate or Rosclux Grey. .
The rear panel of the shadowbox is removable to allow for the addition of LED lighting. There are individual floors and ceilings that have a space provided for a square styrene tube that can act as a chase to hide post-purchase wiring. The ceilings each have cut-outs for the placement of 5050 LED lights.
If you prefer a prelit model, we offer the shadowbox lit with two 5050 LED’s per floor, all with individual leads, and the slotted square styrene tube. See the listing for WH-03-28"-LIT.
